SALARY: $5,416 – $7,083/month

THE POSITION

The Lead Water Operator (LWO) position serves as the water department manager for the District. The LWO is responsible for all aspects of operating the District’s water production and distribution system, including all required testing, monitoring and reporting requirements, such as EAR reports. The LWO is also responsible for the Districts backflow prevention program monitoring and enforcement. The LWO must not only be competent in all matters of operations, but is also responsible for supervising water department employees, coordinating with property owners, developers and others for connection to or extension of the water system, and providing exceptional customer service to the District’s users. The LWO will be required to monitor water department expenses, inventory, and will report to the General Manager. The LWO may, from time to time, attend District board meetings to make reports to the Board of Directors regarding certain projects or department activities. The LWO is required to make staffing schedules and will, along with other staff, be required to be on-call after hours to respond urgent service calls, such as system leaks, power outages or other situations that may result in an interruption of the District water delivery standards.

THE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications in order to be eligible for the position:

High School Diploma or GED completion and hold a valid Water Distribution Operator Certificate, Grade D2, and Water Treatment Operator Certificate, Grade T2, issued by the California State Resources Control Board; and at least two (2) years of full-time work experience in the testing, cleaning, maintenance, inspection, repair, installation, replacement, construction, distribution, and operation of public water system. A successful candidate should also have sufficient supervisorial experience to supervise one or more operators working under the lead operator’s supervision. The lead operator will also have to demonstrate a willingness to coordinate work assignments, such as on-call duties, with personnel in other divisions of the District.

Applicants must attach a copy of their valid D2 and T2 certification with their application.

Possession and continued maintenance of a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver’s license and current copy of their driving record.

Candidates will be required to have and maintain a valid Backflow Certificate by the California State Water Resources Control Board.

The LWO is considered a safety sensitive position under the District Substance Abuse Policy and as such, the LWO is subject to pre-employment drug screening, and other drug testing requirements under the District Substance Abuse Policy.

Candidates may also be required to submit to a Department of Justice Live-Scan background check.
